Wing and a prayer

Who shows up at the gallery last night but Alexander from Voenix Rising all the way from balls-stuck-to-the-legs-hot Arizona. He arrived right at dinner time and my pals Charles and Ron brought stew over and I made homemade buttermilk biscuits. There was much jam and laughing enjoyed around the table, afterwards I took Alexander for a drive to Thayne. The ‘back way’ don’t cha know…

As I round the corner a great horned owl lands on a branch beside the truck and I slow down so my blogger pal can take a picture of this rare sighting. We continue on to the valley’s white trash equivalent of 7-11 and buy ourselves a cool drink and head back to the gallery. Alexander has a big day in Yellowstone the following day so we hug goodnight and he heads for his motel. 2 seconds later he’s knocking at the door…his cell phone is missing. I’m thinking this is fucking great, he drives all the way up to Wyoming and loses his damn phone first shot out of the gate.

We look in the truck…nada. I get on the horn and call Maverick Country Stores and no one has turned in a cell phone they’ve found in the parking lot. It’s at that very moment I know where his phone is. We hop in his car and drive the back way to Thayne again; slowing down and looking ahead of us in the headlight glow. There on the road is his phone lying on the ground in the precise spot where Alex had hopped out to snap a shot of the owl. not a scratch on it.
Alexander turned around to drive me home and the owl swooped down over the car on our way back. Talk about your watch dog :)

Have a great day in Yellowstone!

Totally SWEET! That owl is amazing. Saw one in the very same way about an hour north of Boise years ago…on a bridge crossing over a river. We have the Maverick Country Stores in Boise too! I feel like I’m home…again.

Knotty, this is just a PERFECT story. A beautiful anecdote of internet friendship and the power of “genius insight”….a “Eureka” moment when you know that all is aligned in the universe and the cell phone is lying on the tarmac just waiting to be retrieved. I just love when that happens!!

Had that been my phone, it wouldn’t have been found until it was under one of the wheels of the car.
BTW, I made a HUGE pot of your split pea soup yesterday. The Squeeze and I both loved it. I’ve got 4 freezer bags full of it to enjoy as the weather gets colder.
